 Amritsar is a city of just over a million people and is situated in the Indian state of Punjab, India, very close of the border with Pakistan.
The people of Amritsar speak the Punjabi dialect of Maajhi, while you will also hear Hindi, English and Urdu spoken often. Amritsar is a city of great religious importance because it is the spiritual and cultural centre of the Sikh Religion.
The city is often viewed as the best place to start travelling in North India, because it is home to Raja Sansi International Airport and it also lies on the Grand Trunk Road which stretches from Delhi to Lahore in Pakistan.
Its also home to the Golden Place which is the most visited tourist attraction in India, even more popular than the Taj Mahal. |
